In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore has taken proactive steps to lead by example. Recognising the transformative power of low-code technologies, IMDA partnered with Workato, an intelligent automation and integration platform, to empower businesses and the public sector to do more with less. This is their story.
IMDA’s accreditation of Workato: A mark of excellence
In 2022, Workato announced our official accreditation by IMDA. This came after a stringent evaluation validating that Workato provides the highest standards in a range of areas, including product development and data security.
As technology stacks grow more complex to address evolving needs, demanding increasingly specialised skills that are in short supply, there is also a pivotal shift towards a more scalable yet secure approach of unifying integration and automation in modern, cloud-first enterprises. IMDA’s accreditation is significant – it recognises Workato’s capabilities as one of the leading automation and integration platforms that enables rapid integrations across enterprise applications for improved operational workflow.
Since being accredited, Workato has grown from strength to strength, leading digital transformation projects in various industries and creating hundreds of high value jobs in Singapore. IMDA worked with Workato to pioneer this approach on their workflows and processes.
Reimagining scholar management and benefits administration with automation
At the heart of IMDA’s Human Capital Cluster (HCC), technology is transforming how the team manages the SG Digital Leadership Accelerator community. Armed with the Workato’s platform, administrative steps are automated, driving efficiency and inspiring other teams in IMDA to do the same.
Benefits to the HCC team’s automation efforts include minimising human errors, repurposing of the resources to take on new workstreams, and enhancing the scholar user journey with faster response time. Within six months, the HCC composed over 50 workflows that performed tasks ranging from processing of scholarship requests to reporting analytics. This partnership with Workato has helped the HCC team to save more than 1,000 man-hours over 12 months through the power of harmonious end-to-end automation.
Meanwhile, IMDA’s Digital Transformation Office (DTO) has also collaborated with Workato to build a Benefits Bot that sits on their internal communications platform, Slack. Live in 5 weeks, this bot automates benefits administration with grace and agility, ensuring that the balloting process adheres to complex business logic. With these automations running across IMDA’s end-to-end benefits workflow, you could forgive users for thinking that this bot was already inbuilt in Slack.
Staying true to their goal of empowering citizen developers, IMDA’s HCC and DTO teams are driving awareness to inspire change.
Fostering a culture of innovation: Empowering citizen developers
From running roadshows to training sessions to certify recipe builders (i.e. automation workflow builders), IMDA’s HCC and DTO are pulling out all stops and riding on the waves of their initial successes. From finance to internal audit, staff across several departments in IMDA are being empowered to reimagine and explore possibilities on how they work.
Today, IMDA’s commitment to driving innovation and excellence with Workato is not just an ambitious narrative; it is a living, breathing reality. It’s a partnership that exemplifies how public sector agencies embrace the digital age with open arms and lead the orchestra of transformation. The digital symphony continues, with IMDA and Workato composing the future, one automated note at a time.
