Jason Tamara Widjaja
Executive Director of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Singapore Tech Center, MSD
Jason believes in working towards a better world through data and AI. As the Executive Director of AI, he leads the global strategic direction of AI capabilities and best practices, working in close partnership with key business and technology stakeholders.
Jason’s work on AI capabilities spans both classical and modern approaches, including natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning and generative AI. His team is consistently at the forefront of AI thinking and research, driving decisions and guiding AI capability development by making the right bets in a fast moving and uncertain environment. At MSD, Jason is also responsible for AI ethics and governance maturity, as a co-author of the company’s AI policy and leader of AI risk and trust and safety teams.
He actively contributes to national initiatives including Singapore’s skills framework for data and AI careers, Singapore’s AI Governance Framework, and is an author for Singapore’s AI Ethics and Governance Body of Knowledge. Jason also serves as the Vice President of the AI & Robotics Chapter of the Singapore Computer Society and as one of Singapore’s nominated representatives to the Global Partnership of Artificial Intelligence.
Jason spent half his career in Australia before relocating back to Singapore in 2016. Since then, he has been active in the local start-up ecosystem, as a co-founder of Lauretta.io with his brother Galvin, and a mentor to AI startups in partnership with local venture capital firms in Singapore. A recognized thought leader, Jason regularly speaks at international conferences and has been featured in the Business Times, TODAY and the Sydney Morning Herald.
Jason was on the Melbourne Business School Dean’s List for his MBA and graduated from the same university with a second master’s in Business Analytics. He also holds a degree in Computing from the National University of Singapore and a first-class honours’ in Business Information Systems and Human Resources Management from Middlesex University.
In 2022, Jason was one of three professionals to attain the highest level of the Certified AI Ethics and Governance (Expert) accreditation.
In his free time, Jason enjoys reading, gaming and giving back by advocating for ethical AI and diversity in tech. Jason enjoys writing on Medium and Quora, where he is an awarded top writer with over 1,000 answers in Data Science, Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.
Qian Liu
Research Scientist, Sea AI Lab
Qian Liu is currently a Research Scientist at Sea AI Lab. Before joining Sea AI Lab, he was a joint PhD student at Beihang University and Microsoft Research Asia. His main research focus is on Natural Language Processing, primarily including code generation and multilingual language models. He has published several papers in top conferences such as ICLR, NeurIPS, and ICML, with representative works including TAPEX, LoraHub, and OctoPack.
His paper "Reasoning Like Program Executors" won the Outstanding Contribution Award at Microsoft MLADS 2022 AI Symposium. He has also been involved in StarCoder 1/2, which are well-known code generation models in the open-source community, garnering over 2.3K likes on HuggingFace. He was nominated for the 2020 Baidu Scholarship (20 worldwide) and was fortunate to be selected as KAUST Rising Stars in AI 2024 (30 worldwide). Additionally, he is actively involved in the community, being one of the co-founders of the well-known Chinese MLNLP community.
Soujanya Poria
Assistant Professor, SUTD
Soujanya Poria is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at SUTD. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Stirling, UK. Dr. Poria’s scholarly contributions include over 100 published papers in well-regarded conferences and journals. He has garnered substantial attention in the academic community, accumulating more than 20,000 citations on Google Scholar.
His research has attracted funding from both governmental and industrial sources, and his achievements have been acknowledged through awards like the Social Impact Award at NAACL 2024, IEEE CIM Outstanding Paper Award, and ACM ICMI Best Paper Award Honorable Mention. Dr. Poria has taken on significant responsibilities in various conferences and workshops, including roles as area co-chair in several ACL, NAACL, NeuRIPS, and EMNLP conferences. He has also served as a workshop co-chair at AACL 2022. His expertise has been recognized globally, leading to invitations for keynote presentations at notable events such as CICLing 2018, SocialNLP2019, MICAI 2020, and ICON 2020.
Dr. Poria serves as an associate editor for reputable publications including Cognitive Computation, Information Fusion, IEEE Transactions on Big Data, and Neurocomputing. In 2018, he was honored with the prestigious NTU Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship. He was named one of the recipients of the IEEE’s “10 to Watch in AI” award in 2022.
In addition to this recognition, Dr. Poria has received other esteemed awards, including the President’s Young Scientist Award in 2023, MIT TR35 Innovator under 35 Asia Pacific, the IEEE CIS Outstanding Early Career Award in 2024, and the Aminer AI2000 Most Influential Scholar Honorable Mention Award in 2023 and 2024.
