The Digital for Life movement calls for partners to further empower parents, youths and children to navigate online space safely

More than 300 partners have joined hands to support over 400,000 beneficiaries to embrace and leverage digital technology

SINGAPORE – 05 JUL 2024

1. The Digital for Life (DfL) movement doubled the number of partners from the public, people and private (3P) sectors to over 300 today. The collective effort of 3P partners underscores the commitment of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to leaving no one behind as Singapore progresses towards a digital future. IMDA recognised the DfL partners at an appreciation event held at the National Gallery Singapore today. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Patron of the DfL movement, graced the event, hosted by Minister for Communications and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo.

Empowering Singaporeans to thrive in a digital world

2. Through ground-up projects catalysed by DfL partners, the movement has helped more than 400,000 beneficiaries gain access to digital connectivity (such as Internet connection or smart phones), learn digital skills (such as how to transact online), and have exposure to emerging technology.

3. Today, 12 DfL partners – Amazon, Association of Information Security Professionals (AiSP), Cisco, Cognizant, DBS Bank, Google, Huawei, Lion Befrienders, Micron, Singtel, Standard Chartered Bank, United Overseas Bank – were recognised as DfL Champions for their significant and diverse contributions to the movement over the past two years.

4. As digital adoption grows, one pressing challenge is online safety. Under the DfL movement, the DfL partners play a key role in empowering Singaporeans to navigate the online space safely. For example, through its various programmes from talks, workshops, coaching and counselling sessions, Focus on the Family Singapore helped children and their parents to use technologies more meaningfully. “Raising Future Ready Kids in the Digital Age” is one such programme where both parents and children pick up practical tips on speaking about screen time limits, which help families agree on their device use and screen time arrangements. Focus on the Family Singapore aims to reach 1,200 parents through this programme over two years, from 2023 to 2024.

5. DfL partners have also contributed to raising awareness of fake news and the latest scam tactics. For instance, AiSP has conducted cyber wellness webinars and roadshows, reaching more than 24,000 beneficiaries since 2021. AiSP has also developed Cyberwatch, a game for seniors and youths to embrace good cyber practices.

6. This year, a new category of DfL Catalysts was introduced to recognise partners that have initiated DfL projects with sustained impact or donated to its causes. A total of 38 partners were conferred as DfL Catalysts (refer to the Annex for the full list (108.31KB)).

7. Given that the online space continues to face challenges such as AI-generated deepfakes, we welcome more partners to join us to improve online safety. Partners can continue to contribute resources to the DfL portal at www.digitalforlife.gov.sg, such as materials to empower parents to guide their children in the digital age. DfL partners can also tap on the portal’s learning resources to help their employees and communities stay safe online. The DfL movement invites more partners, including individuals, corporates, and organisations, to join in building a more digitally inclusive future for all Singaporeans.
