IMDA explores innovative use of existing and disruptive technologies to address sector issues and provide a sustainable ecosystem in targeted areas of focus in Urban Logistics and International Trade & Logistics.

Logistics have been a significant part of Singapore’s economy consistently contributing to 7.4% of GDP over the years. In 2015, there are more than 5000 logistics companies employing more than 230,000 workers.[1] This sector will continue to be a pivotal infrastructure to the Singapore economy and Southeast Asia.

A fragmented landscape is observed in the logistics sector with a handful companies embracing the use of advance technologies like robotics while the bulk of logistics mainstream are still behind the curve struggling with more labour–intensive processes. In the last decade, rising overhead cost and lack of drivers in the sector further affected by a tight foreign labour policy pose tremendous challenges, especially to the smaller players.

IMDA explores innovative use of existing and disruptive technologies to address sector issues and provide a sustainable ecosystem in targeted areas of focus in Urban Logistics and International Trade & Logistics.

IMDA envisages a path-finding journey across the logistics sector to validate innovative ideas to achieve sector productivity improvement, to reduce (reliance in foreign workforce) dependency of labour-intensive processes and to enable value creation to enhance Singapore Logistics hub proposition and hopefully level the playing field in some industry.
